Last year, we achieved a community goal by acquiring the former Our Lady of
Presentation School property at 640 Washington Street in Brighton. During 2008,
we received the zoning variances needed to offer educational, health and related
community services at the facility. Recently, we cleared out all the asbestos
from the building and in March 2009, we'll begin renovations to make the building
fully compliant with all health, safety, and accessibility requirements — we
will also be making it a model of "green" renovation.
By the end of 2009, we expect programs to be up and running — from small
community groups to award-winning providers, including Little Sprouts Early
Education Center that will serve more than 140 local children from infants to
kindergarteners as part of an Urban Early Education Initiative in cooperation
with WGBH and others. We'll cut a big ribbon next year! We look forward to opening
the PSF building as a place were we can all share, celebrate, and learn together.
